Made for winners: H&N product lines for bullets

Our range of bullets offers the right ammunition for every requirement. So that you give all you have to give and make the most of your weapon.

A) Short-barrelled weapons

25 metre accuracy
Where 25 metre events are concerned, consistency and accuracy are what count above all. H&N bullets meet this purpose in all calibres, from the .32 wadcutters right through to the .44 Magnum calibre, 300 grain bullets. Regardless of whether you’re using DSB centre fire or minimum pulse or BDMP 1500”.

Dynamic shooting

Especially in dynamic shooting disciplines, totally reliable feed, speed and accuracy are vital. Regardless of whether IPSC or Bianchi: H&N provides the right bullets for all events.

Western shooting

Accuracy and uncomplicated handling are what count with cowboy action shooting too. H&N high-speed bullets prevent lead abrasion in the barrel and keep exposure to smoke to the very minimum. Give them a try! Needless to say, we continue to manufacture traditional bullets with a lubrication groove.

B) Rifles

Target practice for hunting

H&N manufactures copper-plated lead bullets for reduced rifle loads. The calibres range from the .22 Hornet to the standard calibre and the .45/70 Government. There is plenty of load data available for these bullets. They are ideal for training young hunters and for inexpensive target practice up to 100 metres with the usual accuracy. The only thing that needs changing is the sight adjustment. Regardless of whether it’s a simulator shooting gallery or 100 metre deer target: H&N rifle ammunition is ideal for inexpensive target practice with low recoil.

Please note: Loads with H&N bullets must not be used for hunting on account of the lower energy value.

Shooting ordinance guns

When H&N started manufacturing rifle ammunition, the main focus was on shooting with ordinance guns. This is why there are bullets for all the main calibres, to some extent in two different weights. H&N “high-speed” bullets for reduced rifle loads are suitable for all repeater rifles, but normally not for semi-automatic weapons. Shooting with reduced loads spares your wallet, weapon and shoulders. There is a wealth of tested loading data for our ammunition. We have done without using filler materials here. However it is vital to weigh the individual charges of powder exactly. We recommend that as far as possible you raise the muzzle slightly before firing so that the powder always stays in the same position in the case (cartridge base).

Target shooting up to 100m

Any large-bore rifle can achieve top results with H&N high-speed bullets for reduced loads up to a distance of 100 metres, while causing less strain on the shooter and the weapon. We supply all the main calibres from .22 Hornet through to the .45/70 Government. These loads are particularly suited for simulator target shooting. The following applies here: an ounce of practice is worth a pound of theory.

50 / 100m western shooting

The typical, long-range calibres for shooting with lever action rifles are the 30-30 Winchester and die .45-70 Government. But even .44-40 or .38-40 calibres are becoming more and more popular on account of their case shape which is better for lever action guns. Any bullets for weapons with a tubular magazine will need a flat-nose bullet in order to prevent detonation in the magazine. H&N has developed bullets for all calibres, which are designed specifically for shooting falling targets and paper targets. A reduced recoil is the result when the right loads are used. The barrel does not heat up excessively, nor is there any substantial build-up. Exposure to smoke is extremely low unlike with lubricated lead bullets.

C) Muzzle-loaders

H&N offers a wide range of round balls for muzzle-loaders made from top-quality refined lead. These are manufactured with dimensional accuracy and without any shrinkage holes on swaging machines under high pressure, as are the bullets for cartridge firearms. When the correct loading technique is used, it is possible to obtain shot spreads that are the equal of those obtained with modern cartridge firearms. Our finely classified range with bullet diameters from 7.8 mm to 17.5 mm offers the right size for every weapon.

Tips on choosing the right diameter bullet:

In the case of muzzle-loaders the bullet diameter should be about 0.1 mm larger than the diameter of the cylinder bore. With single-shot muzzle-loaders the bullets are usually shot with wadding. The wadding thickness is selected according to the size of the barrel, as with the bullet diameter. Calculate the exact groove and land diameter of the weapon, if applicable by knocking a piece of soft lead through. A round ball should be chosen for these weapons where the diameter is 0.1 mm less than the calculated land measurement.

Our advice:

Choose a bullet with a diameter 0.1 mm less than the land diameter. The minimum wadding thickness then amounts to: groove diameter minus bullet calibre divided by two. Usually the size of the wadding is between 0.2 and 0.4 mm. Make sure in any case that the wadding has enough lubrication!
