Safety first: rules for handling firearms
The handling of firearms requires concentration and a sense of responsibility. Carelessness, showing-off and recklessness have no place in shooting. By observing the following safety rules you will be doing your part to make shooting a safe and accepted hobby. It is up to all of us to put these rules into practice.
- Take your time in familiarising yourself with your firearm. Learn how to handle it safely, to load and unload it, to shoot and to care for your firearm.
- Any firearm should in principle be considered to be LOADED!
- Always wear appropriate protection for your eyes and ears!
- Never play around with your firearm! Every firearm can potentially cause great damage!
- Never use pellets or bullets twice!
- Never point your weapon at a person!
- Before firing identify your target clearly. You are responsible for every single shot you fire and the consequences.
- Keep the safety catch on your weapon engaged until you have sighted your target and are ready to fire!
- Keep your finger away from the trigger until you have sighted your target and are ready to fire!
- Do not shoot at or in water!
- Never rely solely on the mechanical safety devices of your weapon! These are no substitute for healthy common sense and safety routines!
- Firearms should always be put down in such a way that everyone in the vicinity can check at a glance to see if the weapon is loaded.
- After using your firearm make sure that there is no ammunition left in the barrel.
- Never leave your weapon unattended!
- External circumstances that have a strong effect on your firearm may cause damage to the internal mechanisms, which can lead to a firearm being discharged inadvertently!
- Always store firearms and ammunition separately and make sure they are inaccessible to children!
